Kinglake Streetscape

The main street in Kinglake appeared very tired prior to this streetscape upgrade project. We collaborated with Tomkinson Civil Engineers to design the streetscape alignment, surface materials, street furniture, trees, and understory planting.

The main street in Kinglake appeared very tired prior to this streetscape upgrade project. We collaborated with Tomkinson Civil Engineers to design the streetscape alignment, surface materials, street furniture, trees, and understory planting. We designed outdoor dining areas with a new furniture suite and good connections to established businesses within the streetscape. The addition of greenery and trees has refreshed the existing shop fronts, creating a welcoming atmosphere. We proposed deciduous trees to maximise sunlight during winter and provide vibrant colours in Autumn.

One of the challenges included selecting footpath materials for use under large significant eucalyptus trees that survived the 2009 Black Saturday fires. Plant selection for a streetscape without irrigation in a damp, misty environment also proved challenging, although the new trees are now showing healthy and lush growth.
