We were engaged by Wimmera Mallee Tourism to develop a detailed concept plan for their tourism priority areas, including Edenhope and Kaniva streetscapes. Edenhope is an agricultural service town located on the southern shore of Lake Wallace and is a hub for the southwest Wimmera Mallee region. Kaniva is located on the busy Western Highway, halfway between Melbourne and Adelaide. It is the first town in Victoria from South Australia and an important gateway to the Wimmera Mallee region.
As designers, we listened carefully to the concerns of stakeholders and the community to develop a plan that would fit their needs. The proposed streetscape design for each town is intended to improve liveability, safety and amenity for the local community and visitors to the town. New footpath pavements, arbour, entry signs, seating walls, refurbished street furniture, large canopy trees and a colourful planting palette are proposed to revitalise the streetscape. The design aims to complement and improve the existing township character.
